Research Interests:  Chicano Literature, Film and Culture

Dr. Spencer R. Herrera is a Professor of Spanish in the Department of Languages & Linguistics at New Mexico State University, where he has taught literature and film for more than twenty years. His teaching and scholarship center on storytelling, with a particular focus on Chicana/o and borderlands literature and culture. He is co-editor of Querencia: Reflections on the New Mexico Homeland (UNM Press, 2020) and co-author of Sagrado: A Photopoetics across the Chicano Homeland (UNM Press, 2013). In addition to his work in literary and cultural studies, he explores digital storytelling through video, podcasting, and documentary filmmaking. He earned his Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature from the University of New Mexico. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, he has called Nuevo México home for the past twenty-five years.
